Eligibility

Each Civic Leadership Institute brings together a diverse group of bright, motivated high school students with an interest in service and a desire to develop their leadership and citizenship skills.

You are eligible for the Civic Leadership Institute if you:

  • will have completed 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade by summer 2008; and
  • can demonstrate a high level of academic ability through strong scores (generally in the 95th percentile or above) on the verbal composite of a nationally-normed standardized achievement test (See score requirements below. Students who do not meet these requirements may submit an Admission Portfolio); and
  • have a sincere interest in learning about communities, social issues, and active citizenship. (Applicants are encouraged to use the student essay to demonstrate their interest and/or experience in these areas.)

 

Application Process

Catalogs and Application materials are available on our website for download, or contact us to request application materials by mail. Online applications are also available.

Applications to the CTY Civic Leadership Institutes must be received by April 5, 2008. Applications to the CTD Civic Leadership Institute must be postmarked or submitted online by May 15, 2008.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and space is limited, so students are encouraged to apply early to increase their chances of being accepted into the program.

Application Postmark Deadline: May 15, 2008

 

Notification

Students are notified of the status of their application within four weeks of receipt of a complete application. Accepted students receive an admissions packet at that time, with all relevant details about the program and site, including travel information, opening and closing day schedules, a list of things to bring, health and medical information, rules and policies, etc.

 

Late Applications

Late applications will be accepted, and considered as space in the programs permit. Applications submitted after the deadlines listed above must be accompanied by an additional $25 late fee.

 

International Applicants

International applicants to the CTD Civic Leadership Institute in Chicago are required to submit, in addition to other application requirements, their most recent TOEFL or SLEP test scores (if English is not their first language). International students must also pay a $100 international application fee instead of the $50 domestic application fee.

Non-US citizens must have the appropriate student visa and passport to attend summer programs in the US. International applicants are strongly encouraged to apply by April 1, 2008, as it takes 8 to 10 weeks to secure a visa.
