About Us
Expertise
Gifted LearningLinks (GLL), like all Northwestern University Center for Talent Development programs, is built on a foundation of decades of nationally recognized research on how to help gifted students realize their potential. This research emphasizes the importance of outstanding instruction, an appropriate level of challenge and opportunities for independent learning, all key aspects of the GLL program.
Gifted LearningLinks offers academically talented students in kindergarten through grade 12 the opportunity to take challenging courses from inspiring instructors who are experts in their fields. Our expertise in gifted education is matched only by our history and experience with the innovative use of technology to foster engaging online learning experiences. By enrolling in GLL, you are just a few mouse clicks away from connecting with gifted students from around the world and learning from the very best instructors, all at a pace that matches your abilities, from a place most convenient for you!
Advanced Technology
There is a reason we use the term online learning, rather than distance learning, to describe our program, and that reason is technology. Through human ingenuity and advanced technology, Gifted LearningLinks brings students and instructors from around the world together in such a way that renders geographic distance insignificant and fun with learning paramount.
GLL students learn math and economics through financial trading simulations and conduct virtual lab experiments in biology, chemistry and physics. They participate in real-time class sessions using webcams, and they team up with like-minded peers to craft essays and screenplays in Northwestern University’s Online Collaboratory. From virtual field trips to world-renowned museums to an instructor’s detailed feedback on assignments, technology enables GLL students to enjoy superlative online learning experiences designed with them in mind.
Note: Gifted LearningLinks welcomes “techies” and “technophobes” alike! The GLL tutorial and an online orientation week ensure that everyone feels comfortable with and knowledgeable of online learning mechanics before a class even starts. Our web site features answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs), and instructors and administrators are always just an e-mail or phone call away. Regardless of your previous experience with online education, GLL's staff will help you become a pro in no time!
Accreditation
Center for Talent Development is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools as a "Special Function School." Accreditation enables CTD to grant high school credit for rigorous courses like Gifted LearningLink’s honors and AP® courses. Not only that, accreditation signifies that an objective party has deemed CTD and all its programs to be student-oriented, continuously improving, and dedicated to delivering on our promises.
People
Though technology may be the medium through which we work, people are at the heart of all we do. We are continually amazed by our students and their achievements, and we revel in the part we play in helping them achieve their goals. When a student writes to say he scored a 5 on his AP® psychology exam or a parent informs us that her daughter placed into an advanced course due to summer enrollment in GLL, we know we are doing something right.
Our staff, too, are accomplished individuals who care deeply about the education of gifted students. We invite you to get to know them, learn more about our program and make your course selection today!
