Course Title Grades Description
Grades 2–6 Language Arts & Writing (LAW) 2 - 6 The Language Arts and Writing course provides students with a systematic presentation of the essential elements of English grammar and mechanics, focusing on grammatical concepts, language conventions, and sentence-level writing. The content is divided into three curriculum strands: parts of speech, sentence structure, and sentence composition.

Course Title Grades Description
Ages 9-11 Introductory Expository Writing (W09A) 4 - 6 Topics include: Writing as a Process; Analyzing Expository Writing; Paragraph Development and Organization; Writing Summarization, Description, and Definition Paragraphs; Introduction to the Academic Essay; Transitions; and Quote Integration.

Note:
Students meet online once a week in the EPGY virtual classroom where class is conducted using microphones and a shared, interactive whiteboard. One or two sections (class meeting times) of a course are offered every quarter, though not all courses may be offered every quarter. Section meeting times are subject to cancellation if minimum enrollment is not reached.

Students send their writing assignments to their instructor via email to receive feedback.

Students download some of the course materials (syllabus and homework assignments) from their EPGY course page.

Virtual classroom participation is mandatory.

Students must receive a grade of B- or better in W09A to register for either W09B or W09C. All students must pass with a B- or better in every class to continue in the EPGY English Program.

Ages 9-11 Introductory Literary Analysis (W09C) 4 - 6 Topics include: Introduction to Writing about Literature; Plot, Character, and Setting; Figurative Language and Imagery; Tension and Conflict; and The Compare and Contrast Essay.

Grades K-7 Mathematics Courses - GLL: 2010-2011 & 2011- 2012 EPGY Monthly Enrollments
Course Title Grades Description
Accelerated K through grade 2 Mathematics (M00A) K - 2 Topics include counting, elementary set operations, addition and subtraction, measurement, multiplication, fractional parts, and shapes.
Accelerated 3–4 Mathematics (M00B) 3 - 4 Topics include basic axioms of arithmetic: integers, symmetry, angles, polygons and operations with fractions.
Accelerated 5–6 Mathematics (M00C) 5 - 6 Topics include an introduction to plane and solid geometry, sentential logic and sets, operations on fractions and mixed numbers, decimal arithmetic and percentages, functions and graphing, area and volume, prime numbers, and probability.
Honors Beginning Algebra (M011) 7 - 7 The first year of high school algebra. Topics: the real number system, equations and inequalities, polynomials and exponents, factoring and applications, rational expressions, graphing linear equations, linear systems, roots, radicals, and quadratic equations.
Honors Pre-Algebra Grade 7 Mathematics (M00D) 7 - 7 The topics covered in grade 7 Mathematics are traditionally covered in a grade 7-8 pre-algebra mathematics curriculum. Topics include the coordinate system, solving linear equations, surface area and volume, exponentiation, elementary statistics and trigonometry, absolute value, and graphing.

Course Title Grades Description
Introduction to Logic (M157) 9 - 12 Introduction to Logic is a standard introduction to sentential and first-order logic. Other topics include truth tables, inference rules, proofs and counter-examples, quantification, symbolizing English sentences, consistency proofs and independence.

Note: the text for this course is supplied by EPGY.

Linear Algebra (M51A 9 - 12 This is an introductory course in Linear Algebra. Topics include linear spaces, transformations, matrices, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, and linear operations.

Requirements:
Prerequisite: Multi-variable Differential Calculus
Multivariable Differential Calculus (M52A) 9 - 12 This course covers differential calculus for functions of two or more variables. Other topics include vectors, curvature, partial derivatives and differentiability, directional derivatives and gradients, maxima and minima, optimization using Lagrange multipliers.

Requirements:
Prerequisite: Calculus C
Multivariable Integral Calculus (M52B) 9 - 12 Integral calculus for functions of two or more variables. Topics include: double and triple integrals, change of variables and the Jacobian, vector fields, line integrals, independence of path and the fundamental theorem of line integrals, Green’s theorem, divergence theorem, and Stokes’s theorem.
