Gifted LearningLinks (GLL) Honors Electives offer challenging online courses that may not be available in their schools.  These courses include subjects found in all schools, but content that is more specific to a field than is generally available in schools.  Honors Elective courses allow students to explore topics in social science and science and humanities, in-depth and commensurate with their abilities.

GLL Honors Elective courses are developed and led by teachers who are experts in their fields. A facilitated independent study model can allow students the opportunity to accomplish their learning goals with more independence than in a traditional classroom.  An expert teacher, who provides individualized feedback, guides students through the course material.  To ensure success, participants should be highly motivated and independent learners.

There are no specific prerequisites for these electives.  The courses are enticing to students who are passionate about an area, have a passing interest in the topic or may be considering a career in that field.  Each honors elective course is equivalent to a one-semester high school course upon successful completion.  Students have up to 18 weeks to complete the course with an expected four to six hours per week working on class assignments.

Accelerated Summer Option (ASO)
The Accelerated Summer Option offers students an opportunity to complete the same coursework in an accelerated timeframe of nine weeks. In order to do so, students are expected to spend eight to twelve hours per week working on class assignments. It is highly recommended that students budget their time wisely before deciding to enroll in an ASO course.  This option is most appropriate for highly motivated, independent students.  Students will receive 1 high school credit upon successful completion of the course.  Textbooks for ASO courses are the same textbooks for the normal 18-week course.  You can look up and purchase textbooks through the CTD online bookstore [http://bookstore.mbsdirect.net/ctd.htm].

Students participating in an ASO course who are unable to complete their coursework in nine-weeks may revert to the 18-week option (June 15 start with an extended October 19 end date) with the approval of the instructor and GLL staff.  Requests must be made in writing by August 3, 2011 or two weeks before the ASO end date.  A $75 processing fee is required to revert to the nine-month option.
