Gifted LearningLinks (GLL) Honors Electives offer challenging online courses that may not be available in their schools.  These courses include subjects found in all schools, but content that is more specific to a field than is generally available in schools.  These courses allow students to explore topics in social science and science and humanities, in-depth and commensurate with their abilities.

Gifted LearningLinks Honors Elective courses are developed and led by teachers who are experts in their fields. A facilitated cohort model can allow students the opportunity to work and interact with other students who are enrolled in their course (their cohort) with some facilitation by the instructor. This model offers courses where students may participate in online discussions, work on collaborative projects, and/or attend real-time class sessions with like-minded peers. The method of instruction varies according to the course content, teacher, enrollment and student needs.

Beginning on June 15, the summer session affords students the opportunity to take a class they may have missed earlier in the year.  Selected courses are posted on our web site at www.ctd.northwestern.edu/gll in early March as “Back by Popular Demand” honors elective classes.

There are no specific prerequisites for these electives.  The courses are enticing to students who are passionate about an area, have a passing interest in the topic or may be considering a career in that field.  Each honors elective course listed below is equivalent to a one-semester high school course.
