Our Program
Overview
NGVF seeks to build a “pipeline” of high potential students from diverse backgrounds and to prepare them to enter the nation’s top colleges and universities.
Through academic enrichment, exposure, support, regular activities and individualized education planning, including business workshops provided by the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), NGVF fosters a positive peer culture, an active network of high-achieving middle and high school students, and a cadre of future leaders. NGVF Scholars will be prepared to enter competitive professional environments that value intellectual acuity, creativity and the ability to operate effectively across geographic, cultural and language barriers.
Eligibility
Candidates for the NGVF Scholarship Program are nominated by their regional talent search centers. In the Midwest, it is CTD. Students can also be nominated by their schools or a community organization, but must also qualify to attend CTD summer studies programs. The size of the applicant pool, season, and timeline to receive applications for consideration for the Next Generation Venture Fund is dependent upon funding availability from individual donors. NGVF applicants are selected using the criteria below:
Funding
There is no charge for those students selected to participate in NGVF. From its inception in 2003, NGVF has sparked a collaborative spirit. The Goldman Sachs Foundation established the Fund as a part of its Signature Initiative to “promote excellence and innovation in education.” As a model of “hands-on” venture philanthropy, the Fund draws together a network of individuals, firms, and foundations who share a common goal: to provide the resources necessary for the brightest underrepresented students to reach their full potential.

NGVF applicants are selected using the criteria below:
- Age and geographic location: Current 8th grader residing within the targeted regions.
- Qualifying SAT/ACT Score: Must qualify to attend the CTD Summer Program.
- Diversity: NGVF's goal is to increase the ethnic and financial diversity of the highly talented students admitted into top universities and colleges.
- Financial need: Limited family income and insufficient funds to cover most or all education-related expenses. NVGF’s evaluation of available family financial support considers family income and factors such as the number of siblings, extraordinary family medical expenses, number of siblings already in college, and the high cost of living in some areas.
- Academic achievement and potential: Strong academic record (including grades and achievement tests).
- Will to succeed: Determination and perseverance in the face of challenges, and success in other pursuits.
