Distance Learning
back to: Programs for Gifted Students
An increasingly popular learning alternative, distance learning is defined as any educational situation in which the teacher and instructor are not face to face – including traditional by-mail correspondence courses; two-way, interactive audio and video classes; classes using the Internet; and CD-ROM based courses.
The advantage of distance learning courses is that they can be done on the students’ own time. Gifted students can use these programs to take courses unavailable in their local schools, to take more advanced courses, to take advanced courses early, and to take additional courses for enrichment. Students need to be motivated to be successful.
The Center for Talent Development's Gifted LearningLinks program is an online learning program especially designed for talented students. Gifted LearningLinks provides courses in language arts, humanities, mathematics, science, social studies, technology and world languages.
Additional distance learning options can be found online at Peterson's.
