What to Expect

Exceptional Teaching
Accelerated Weekend Experience (AWE) instructors are proficient in their field. They have designed their course based on their passion and expertise, and have chosen to teach the course in order to share their knowledge with exceptional students.  AWE instructors also understand the needs of gifted students and provide the right balance of challenge, encouragement and support.

 Active Learning
Gifted students often have many interests but not enough time to explore all of them. A two-day class with intense focus allows them to gain access to information and knowledge in a short time.  Students engage in hands-on activities that bring the subject matter to life. Walk into an AWE classroom and you might hear a student in grade 6 comparing newly constructed computer programming models in Robocode or see a student in grade 8 suturing two sides of a pig in Veterinary Medicine. The AWE structure is based on decades of nationally recognized research as to how to help gifted students realize their potential. Interactive, experiential activities are a vital part of this process.

Friendships
Rather than being labeled as the “smart kid” in a classroom, AWE students are surrounded by other individuals who share their abilities, interests and curiosity. Learning alongside intellectual peers often results in friendships as deep and meaningful as the knowledge students acquire. These friendships, along with the exciting learning environment in which they are fostered, make the Accelerated Weekend Experience a unique learning experience.
