Activity/Lab - The class discussed density and how it applies to sinking and floating.

Building Project - In the late 1700's, the Montgolfier brothers constructed the first hot air balloon.  Today we built a 6 foot tall tissue paper balloon.  Teamwork was especially important to the successful completion of this project.

The gore template was made on butcher block paper.

All template measurements were checked twice.

The template was then cut out.

Meanwhile, tissue paper was glued into 6 foot long sheets.

Completed tissue sheets were stacked in the order they are to be on the balloon.

The template was used to transfer the gore pattern to the tissue paper.

The gores were maticulously cut out.

These gores were glued to each other one by one...

...and glued some more...

...and glued some more.

The completed balloons were checked for leaks ...

... and they even have grown feet.
