Teaching for Talent Development: Starting with Preassessment
A talent development approach to instruction focuses on students’ interests, strengths, and learning readiness, and a critical step toward creating robust, talent-development based learning environment is the effective collection and use of data. Preassessment is an important piece of this data collection process. It takes many forms and can be used for a variety of purposes, but a priority is finding the curriculum, opportunities, and services that “fit” students best as individuals to develop their unique potential. Spend the day with experts from the Center for Talent Development developing your understanding of and expertise in using preassessment to support talent development for your students. We will discuss the talent development framework and how it can provide more rigorous learning opportunities for all students; work in small groups to learn how to understand and use different types of data effectively to understand interests, strengths, and learning readiness; and use case studies to examine and apply effective preassessment strategies.
