Center for Talent Development's Explore Courses tool allows you to easily search for academically advanced programs and courses, based on your chosen criteria.

CTD has a wide array of high-quality, captivating courses for students from age 4 through grade 12. We encourage families to explore our online and in-person offerings, which include family-oriented online models; live, cohort-based online models; flexibly paced online models, and in-person experiences. Both enrichment and credit-bearing courses are available.

To search for courses, select the grade level your child will be at the start of the course session for which they are applying. For summer courses, select the grade they will be in as of fall. You may also filter by subject area(s), program type, and season of interest. If you are looking for a weekend-specific course, check the “weekend only” advanced filter.

Note that between program sessions, courses may not display. Courses do not populate until published for application. Check back regularly for updates.

All course times listed are US Central Time (GMT -06:00) unless otherwise noted. Begin your exploration below.

Introduction to Latin (4-6)

Online
October 18, 2023 - December 1, 2023
6 weeks
English & Language Arts
Fall
Course Information:

Welcome to the Center for Talent Development’s Introduction to Latin course!  This is a 6-week, asynchronous, flexibly paced course within the Online Enrichment Program. Students should expect 2-5 hours of course work per week.

In this class, students dive into the foundational language of Latin as well as the curious realm of Ancient Rome!  Students who love puzzles and logic will enjoy translating this case-inflected language through our textbooks, Minimus: Starting Out in Latin and Minimus Secundus: Moving on in Latin.  In addition, students will explore interesting, and sometimes unusual, qualities of Roman daily life that still impact modern societies today!  Topics will include Roman culture, religious practices and customs, food, chariot-racing, art and architecture, and more!

The Intro to Latin curriculum has three levels: level one, two, and three and is designed to be completed flexibly, according to the needs of each student.  At the beginning each quarter, students will have access to all three levels of the curriculum within the Schoology course. They may complete each level quarterly or advance as far as they wish in the six-week term.  In the following quarter, the instructor will work with each student to pick-up where they left off in the curriculum and begin form there.   By the conclusion of this course and all three levels, students will be prepared to take CTD’s Latin I Honors course, earning high school credit.

Course Information:

Online Family Program (OFP) courses for younger students typically involve more parent participation than OFP courses for older students. Instructors provide ongoing feedback to students and parents through discussion boards to provide maximum flexibility for families’ schedules. The course does not include live, synchronous sessions.

The patterns in the swirls of pinecones, flower petals, pineapple skins and other living, growing things display the grace and beauty of nature and allow us to glimpse the elegance of math. Students explore essential ratios through hands-on activities and projects that reveal the intriguing connections between three natural, mathematical phenomena: phi, also known as the Golden Ratio, the Fibonacci sequence and pi, the ratio of a circle’s circumference and its diameter. Creative and mathematical thinking work in tandem as students use visual-spatial and computational skills in this course.

  • Participation in above-grade-level testing through CTD Assessment (formerly NUMATS) or similar program, or

Zoo Vets (K-1)

Online
October 11, 2023 - November 8, 2023
4 weeks
Science
Fall
Course Information:

Online Family Program (OFP) courses for younger students typically involve more parent participation than OFP courses for older students. Instructors provide ongoing feedback to students and parents through discussion boards to provide maximum flexibility for families’ schedules. The course does not include live, synchronous sessions.

Junior veterinarians and their parents or caregivers investigate life sciences by focusing on zoo animals. They classify animals and compare animals' characteristics. Students delve into what animals need to survive and how zoo vets help them, for example by creating the right kinds of zoo habitats and providing a healthy diet. Students develop their reasoning skills to think like zoo vets.
