Welcome to the Center for Talent Development’s Introduction to Latin course! This is a 6-week, asynchronous, flexibly paced course within the Online Enrichment Program. Students should expect 2-5 hours of course work per week.
In this class, students dive into the foundational language of Latin as well as the curious realm of Ancient Rome! Students who love puzzles and logic will enjoy translating this case-inflected language through our textbooks, Minimus: Starting Out in Latin and Minimus Secundus: Moving on in Latin. In addition, students will explore interesting, and sometimes unusual, qualities of Roman daily life that still impact modern societies today! Topics will include Roman culture, religious practices and customs, food, chariot-racing, art and architecture, and more!
The Intro to Latin curriculum has three levels: level one, two, and three and is designed to be completed flexibly, according to the needs of each student. At the beginning each quarter, students will have access to all three levels of the curriculum within the Schoology course. They may complete each level quarterly or advance as far as they wish in the six-week term. In the following quarter, the instructor will work with each student to pick-up where they left off in the curriculum and begin form there. By the conclusion of this course and all three levels, students will be prepared to take CTD’s Latin I Honors course, earning high school credit.
