Boot Camp for Administrators Summer 2021

Creating a comprehensive, effective, and equitable gifted education program from a talent development perspective requires knowledge of best practices and informed use of resources. For administrators new to gifted education or those with experience but looking to make changes guided by the latest research and practices, Center for Talent Development (CTD) at Northwestern University has developed gifted education Boot Camp.

Topics Covered

An Introduction to the Field

  • Understanding giftedness and national programming standards
  • A primer on current national and state policies
  • Best practices (and missteps) for identification of advanced learners

Creating a School Environment to Support High Ability Learners

  • How to ensure equity within program models
  • Creating inclusive service settings and a continuum of services

Ensuring Quality Instruction

  • Effective curriculum selection and instructional best practices for high ability learners
  • Tips and tools for teachers in managing learning needs

Applying Your Learning

  • Policy development that supports talent development
  • Relationship building with your stakeholder groups
  • Providing effective teacher coaching and professional learning opportunities

This 15-hour training is available virtually. ISBE Professional Development Hours are available.

Boot Camp can also be offered locally for groups of administrators from a single district or region, making use of online, in-person, or hybrid approaches.

Boot Camp Dates and Schedule

Summer: June 21 - 25, with Flexible Consulting time June 28 - July 2

This Boot Camp session is an online program with both synchronous and asynchronous activities. One or two synchronous sessions will be scheduled at times determined by the cohort during week one. The remainder of the activities are asynchronous/on-demand so as to allow for maximum flexibility and personalized learning. Between June 28 and July 2, participants have access to individualized consulting and flexible work time to complete on-demand modules.

Cost: $495 per person; $395 per person for groups of 3 or more registered from the same school or district; $395 for current CTD instructors; $395 for current SESP students
