Information for International Students

Welcome to Center for Talent Development

We are glad you are interested in joining us. Each year CTD hosts students from around the world in its online and in-person programs. Please read below for information that will support a smooth, successful experience.

Demonstrating English Proficiency

Applicants submitting an admission portfolio whose primary spoken language is not English and whose daily instruction in school is less than 50% in English are required to provide TOEFL (or TOEFL Jr. for grades 4–8) or IELTS scores. For students too young to take TOEFL Jr., an English proficiency interview may be requested.

Please note: CTD's PreK - Grade 2 classes are open enrollment, so no application materials are required.  However, it is essential that students are conversant in English and ready to engage fully in a fast-paced, English-speaking classroom. CTD staff and instructors instructors are not able to provide English Language Learner support.

Visas

International participants are defined as non-U.S. citizens or non-U.S. permanent residents not already in the U.S. with an immigration status that permits participation in our program.

International participants and families will need to obtain a B-1/B-2 visa or use the Visa Waiver ('ESTA') program to attend CTD programs. CTD is not able to assist with the visa application process. If you have questions regarding the visa application process, we recommend working with a local travel agent.  While the B-1/B-2 visa does not require proof of health insurance with international coverage, CTD recommends that all its participants are covered by health insurance while in our care.

Preparing for Arrival

International students participating in CTD’s in-person summer programs are encouraged to bring a printed copy of their enrollment emails (subject line: Your student is enrolled in a CTD offering!), along with a printed copy of their payment receipts demonstrating that the programs have been fully paid (view instructions on how to access a payment receipt within MyCTD).

While we do not believe you will be asked for these items upon your arrival to Customs and Border Protection at the airport, having them with you (or with your student should they be traveling alone) may be helpful should any questions arise. It is also strongly encouraged that you have a return ticket purchased for your travel.
