Working with CTD Assessment: What to Expect

Before the Assessment

  • Once hired, Remote Assessment Proctors are expected to spend time reviewing training and onboarding materials, including learning about the testing process, the technology platform/s, and protocols for administration. There will also be training provided by the Assessment Coordinator.
  • Before each test session, proctors are responsible for setting up their test session in the test platform and communicating with families about the test day process and experience.

During the Assessment

  • Proctors administer the assessments online to small groups of students, observe and monitor test activity, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Following the assessment, proctors have responsibilities for submitting student documentation.

How to Have A Successful Experience

  • Proctors should be committed to the goals of the assessment program; attuned to the academic, social, and emotional needs of gifted learners; and understanding of the particular challenges of working with students in an online learning environment.
  • Staff should possess passion, energy, technology skills, organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve quickly.

Interview Process

Candidates receiving further consideration will be invited to participate in an interview via video chat. Candidates may also be asked to submit additional materials during the hire process.

Remote Assessment Proctor Position Details

Job Summary

The Remote Assessment Proctor will be responsible for managing remote, online assessment sessions for students (age 4 through grade 10, depending on the assessment). Assessments take place on weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday).

Specific Responsibilities

Remote Assessment Proctors are responsible for performing assigned duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the expectations described in the job description and all Northwestern University rules and regulations, including:

  • Reviewing CTD training materials and policies
  • Creating test sessions in the assessment system
  • Communicating assessment logistics to families the week of the assessment
  • Using CTD templates to share logistics and Zoom log-in information
  • Proctoring a remote test session for 5 to 10 students using Zoom and the test interface
  • Troubleshooting any difficulties during the test administration
  • Completing a brief checklist of student behaviors during the test 

Tests available for administration include NWEA’s Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) and Riverside’s Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and Iowa Assessments. 

Each test event requires approximately three to four hours of time, including the test session and preparation. CTD Assessment staff provides training and support for proctors.  Proctors work from home.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or extensive experience working with students in an educational setting
  • Experience with technology, including Zoom and other Web tools
  • Testing experience and familiarity with the assessments is preferred but not required. 

Technology Requirements

  • Computer with a camera and current operating system (Windows or Mac Platform)
  • Reliable broadband internet service

Compensation

$40/hr (approx. $160 per test date/session)
