CTD offers hundreds of online enrichment and credit-bearing courses each year for students in PreK - grade 12.

We take pride in our excellent instructional staff who join us from around the country to teach online learners in a challenging, supportive classroom. If you're looking for an online, part-time teaching position in an educationally progressive environment, we'd love to hear from you!

About Teaching Online with CTD

CTD offers a variety of online teaching options. We encourage applicants to review the CTD's online program models to determine the best fit for their skills and experience.

Given the pace of the program and course work, and the intellectual demands of the students, instructors must be content experts, veteran, master teachers, experienced with online instruction, and adept at using a variety of teaching methods, differentiating instruction, and employing assessment tools to guide student learning.

Across all program models, instructors receive coaching, individualized technical support, training resources, and professional development opportunities to set instructors up for success in the online classroom.

Online Family Program Instructor Details (PreK-5)

Online Family Program courses consist of 4 weekly modules on a topic in Language Arts or STEM subject areas. Courses serve students in grade bands PreK (age 3-5), K-1, 2-3, and 4-5; sessions are offered year-round.

Instructors are responsible for designing and implementing the course curriculum via Schoology, CTD’s learning management system. See the Online Family Program job posting for complete details.

Instructor compensation starts at $500, including a $100 course development stipend (for new courses, if applicable). 

Online Weekend Instructor Details (3-8)

Weekend at Home

The Weekend at Home program offers courses in Language Arts, Humanities, and STEM subject areas for students grades 3-8. Courses meet online in live class sessions for 6 consecutive weeks on Saturdays or Sundays in the fall, winter, and spring.

Instructors are responsible for designing and implementing the course curriculum via Schoology, CTD’s learning management system, and facilitating classes via Zoom, Northwestern University’s video conferencing platform. See the Weekend at Home job posting for complete details.

Instructor compensation is $800 (per course) plus $100 for course development (per session).

Encounters at Home

Encounters at Home offers single, half-day courses that immerse students in a focused topic study within a STEM subject area. Courses take place on a Saturday or Sunday.

Instructors are content experts, and responsible for designing the curriculum and facilitating the class via Zoom, Northwestern University’s video conferencing platform. See the Encounters at Home job posting for complete details.

Online Enrichment & Core Essentials Instructor Details (3-10)

Online Enrichment (Grades 3-10) and Core Essentials (Grades 3-8) courses are offered in Language Arts, Humanities, and STEM subject areas. Courses are offered in 9-week sessions year-round.

Instructors are responsible for designing and implementing the course curriculum via Schoology, CTD’s learning management system. See the Online Enrichment and Core Essentials job posting for complete details.

Instructor compensation starts at $900 (Online Enrichment courses) and $1,200 (Online Core Essentials courses) for up to 7 students per course, and increases based on enrollment.

Online Honors, AP® and ASO Instructor Details (6-12)

Online Honors, Online AP®, and Online Accelerated Summer Option (ASO) courses are offered in Language Arts, Humanities, and STEM subject areas for students grades 6-12. Courses are offered throughout the academic year (as Honors and AP® courses) and in the summer (as ASO courses).

All courses offer one or two semesters of high school credit. Honors courses must be NCAA accredited and AP® courses must be authorized by the College Board.

Instructor compensation starts at $1,500 (for 1-credit courses) and $2,600 (for 2-credit courses) for up to 7 students per course, and increases based on enrollment.

Online Leadership and Service-Learning Instructional Positions (7-10)

Civic Education Project (CEP) leadership and service-learning school-year and summer online courses offers promising young people opportunities to develop the knowledge, experience, and leadership skills they need to make a positive impact on the world. Please see Work with CEP for application and hiring details.

Instructor - Leadership Intensive

Instructors are responsible for preparing and facilitating the course curriculum via Schoology, CTD’s learning management system, and facilitating classes via Zoom, Northwestern University’s video conferencing platform. Live Online International Partnership Instructional Positions (Gr. 5-7)

Summer two-week online courses offer students the opportunity to engage with like-minded peers on a topic of interest over two consecutive weeks during live, synchronous online sessions. Instructors plan and implement challenging and engaging online enrichment courses for students in grades 5-7. Course content is one to two years above grade level to meet the needs of CTD’s academically talented student population. Instructors receive support and training in Schoology (CTD’s learning management system) but should have experience with online or hybrid learning environments and be able to differentiate instruction for high ability students with a range of skill levels and background knowledge. Courses are paced to allow for alternating periods of talking, listening and hands-on activity, as well as individual work and group work. 2 TA’s, one bilingual from partner organization, will be provided. Courses are paced to allow for alternating periods talking, listening and hands-on activity, as well as individual work and group work.

Teaching Assistants work closely with instructors to provide safe, challenging, and differentiated experiences in the live online classroom. They supervise students during independent tasks, small group projects, and whole group instruction, and monitor digital communications & resources posted through the CTD learning management system, Schoology, and during the live online classes. Live Online International Seminar Instructional Positions (Gr. 6-12)

International Seminars for grades 6-12 prepare students for the future in a global classroom environment.  These courses are accelerated, credit-eligible, and offered in the evenings to accommodate international student schedules and foster connections between students around the world. Class runs 6pm-9pm CDT Monday-Thursday (no Friday evening classes) and will include significant asynchronous and weekend homework.  Courses include Bubbles & Crashes: Introduction to Economics (Grades 6-8), Human Rights & Foreign Policy (Grades 6-8); Data Journalism (Grades 9-12), Global Economics (Grades 9-12).
